MBBS in Abroad
Prior to pursuing MBBS / MD courses, students need to have a Bachelor’s degree in pre medical subjects as mentioned in eligibility section. Few medical universities in Philippines also mandate candidates to pass National Medical Assessment Test(NMAT) to enroll to their universities.

Philippines being American Colony for many years, inherits its education system from United States, MBBS degree awarded by Philippines medical universities is called MD (Doctor in Medicine) instead of MBBS. Medical schools in the country are regulated by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) of the Philippines, and accredited by theAssociation of Philippine Medical Colleges.
Medical education in the Philippines is principally offered and developed by accredited and government recognized medical schools in the country.
The Philippine medical schools are graduate schools offering the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree. The M.D. is a four-year professional degree program which qualifies the degree holder to take the licensure exam for medical doctors in the Philippines.
Getting MBBS admission in Philippines for Indian students is less competitive compared to Indian MBBS Admission. If middle class economical background student, miss cutoff marks slightly, he or she cannot afford medical education in India because difference in fees between govt and management seat is very high. More Importantly, donation for private MBBS college seat range from 50 lakhs to more than one crore. Because of this huge cost, Indian middle class family is unable to afford medical education.
For the Indian students, completing their senior secondary examination with 50% is the only eligibility criteria. Indian students who want to pursue MBBS/MD course have to get admission for a pre-medical course first(duration of this course is 14 months), and on completion of the same, they can enroll to the medical degree. This course mainly covers biology, medicinal technology, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy and psychology. After completion of this course, students can enroll to university in Philippines
Generally there is no entrance exams to join medicinal universities in Philippines. But few universities require students to pass National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) which consists of two parts. Part -I covers Verbal, Reasoning, Quantitive and Part-II covers Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Please note that there is no ranking system in case of NMAT, only passing this test is sufficient to get admission to Philippines colleges.
MD course duration is 5 and half years for +2 candidates with background in science. The first 16 months is dedicated for pre medical course. It focuses on building foundation for a strong education. Subsequent 4 years students study core medicine subjects and perform clinical rotation. During clinical rotations, candidates gain practical experience treating patients in which they will be guided by experienced doctors.
MCI Screening Test
Indian Students who study MD degree in abroad countries should pass Foreign Medical Graduate Exam (FMGE) before they start clinical practice or take any exam in India for post graduate courses. Students who pursue MD degree in Philippines universities learn almost same subjects that would help them to clear screening tests conducted by National Board of Examinations in India. Pass Percentage is high in candidates who study MBBS degree in asian countries such as Philippines and Nepal compared to China, Russia, etc. This examination is held twice on June and December every year
