MBBS in Abroad
Curriculum for the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) - Part - I (Basic Science)
This curriculum is designed for students coming from Nepal, India and other countries who want to study in the renowned Nanjing Medical University.
The students shall have to get basic knowledge of Chinese language and to pass the HSK examination, which is the basic examination compulsory for students from outside China.
Aims and objectives
The curriculum is prepared keeping in view the needs of the students and the requirements of the country they would come from so that they are competent to practice or go in for post-graduation in their country of origin. It is envisaged that the students shall go back to their respective country after the completion of the course for their compulsory rotating internship, however, facilities for completing internship in Nanjing Medical University shall also be available.
The curriculum aims at providing the students knowledge and skills to diagnose and manage patients, develop attitudes ingrained in the profession, develop proficiency and competence to determine and resolve medical and health problems and develop interest in continued medical education.
Outline of the curriculum
The total duration of the course is four and half years consisting of nine semesters. After the completion of nine semesters, the student shall undergo one year of compulsory rotating internship either in Nanjing Medical University or in the country of origin.
The entire course of nine semesters is divided in two parts
1. First four semesters are devoted to the integrated teaching of basic medical subjects.
2. Next five semesters are devoted to the clinical subjects.
In the first part, the subjects taught would be
- Community Medicine
In the second part the subjects taught would be
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Skin and VD
- Psychiatry and Forensic Medicine
I Semester : Anatomy, Physiology, Chinese language and basic knowledge of computers.
II Semester : Anatomy, Physiology, Chinese language and Biochemistry.
At the end of two semesters the students shall be examined in Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry.
III Semester : Pharmacology and Pathology.
IV Semester : Pharmacology, Pathology, Community Medicine and Microbiology.
At the end of fourth semester the students shall be examined in Pharmacology, Pathology and Microbiology and would not be permitted to be promoted to fifth semester unless they are declared successful in all the three subjects as well as in Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry.
After passing the above subjects the students shall have a vacation of one month during which they would be taken to field visits in Kathmandu for the purpose of fulfilling the requirements of Community Medicine. Community medicine shall continue in fifth semester at the end of which examination shall be held.
Details of the subjects
I Semester : Basic concepts, Autonomic nervous system, Haemopoietic system, Respiratory system, Basic concepts of immunity, Cardiovascular system.
II Semester : Gastro-intestinal tract, Hepato-biliary system, Renal and electrolyte system, Endocrines, Growth and genetics, Integumentary system, Central nervous system, Musculo-skeletal system.
HSK Test : All international undergraduate students must pass HSK Examination (a Chinese language proficiency test) during the entire course of duration)
